Flooring

Click-in tiles and other coverings, laid over a subfloor that has been checked and levelled first.

Laminate boards being clicked together over an underlay, part of the floor still uncovered

Flooring for any room: mostly click-in tiles, though any covering you have chosen can be laid.

The floor underneath is checked and levelled first, then the covering goes down with the expansion gap it needs and the thresholds, trims and skirting go back on.

Three stages

Check, Level, Lay
Floor insulation laid over the slab of a block-built extension, deck going down

01Check the subfloor

The floor underneath is checked before anything is ordered, because most flooring problems start with what was under it.

02Level

Hollows are filled and anything loose is fixed down, so the covering goes onto something flat.

Laminate flooring run out across a landing up to a new balustrade

03Lay, then trim

The covering is laid with the expansion gap it needs at the perimeter, then the thresholds, trims and skirting go back on.

Common questions

What coverings do you lay?

Mostly click-in tiles, though any covering you have chosen can be laid.

Why does the subfloor need levelling first?

Because a dip telegraphs through. A 2mm hollow in a screed will show in the covering within a year, so the floor underneath gets checked and levelled before anything goes down.

Do you fit the thresholds and trims?

Yes. Thresholds, edge trims and reinstated skirting are part of the job rather than something left for someone else.

Can you lay over existing floorboards?

Often, yes, once they have been checked over and anything loose has been fixed down. Where the boards are too uneven they get overboarded first.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Quotes are free and fixed, and you get the price before any work starts rather than a bill that moves once the job is under way.
