Second fix carpentry: skirting, architrave, staircases, fitted storage and panelling, cut and fitted on site.

Second fix carpentry for houses and commercial fit-outs: skirting, architrave, staircases, fitted storage and wall panelling.

Everything is cut in the room it is going in, against the surface it has to sit on, then fixed and left ready for the decorator.

Work undertaken

Primarily second fix

Skirting and architrave
Whole-house runs or a single room, scribed to the wall rather than filled at the gaps.
Staircases
Spindles, newels, handrails and balustrades, including repairs to an existing flight.
Fitted storage
Wardrobes, alcove units and shelving, built to the opening that is there.
Slatted and panelled walls
Battened out and set out so the spacing runs even into the corners.
Boxing in and bulkheads
Pipework, soil stacks and steels cased in and made ready for the decorator.
Window boards and trims
Boards, sills, loft hatches and access panels.
Commercial fitouts
Counters, bar fronts and reception desks, built and fitted on site.

Three stages

Set out, Cut, Fix
Panelling framework set out on a hallway wall before the panels go in

01Set out

The room is looked over first and the work planned around what is actually there, rather than what it should have been.

02Cut on site

Everything is cut in the room it is going in, against the surface it has to sit on, so the joints close properly and stay closed.

03Fix and finish

Fixed and finished ready for the decorator, with the offcuts and the dust cleared rather than left in the corner.

Common questions

Is it only second fix?

Mostly, yes. Skirting, architrave, staircases, fitted storage and panelling are the bulk of it. First fix work gets quoted case by case.

Do you take on commercial work?

Yes. Counters, bar fronts and reception desks have all been part of commercial fitouts, alongside the domestic side.

Is anything made off site?

Very little. Everything is cut in the room it is going in, against the surface it has to sit on, which is why mitres stay closed and skirting gets scribed rather than filled.

Can an existing staircase be repaired rather than replaced?

Usually. Spindles, newels and handrails can be changed on a sound flight, which is a far smaller job than a new staircase.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Quotes are free and fixed, and you get the price before any work starts rather than a bill that moves once the job is under way.
